Labelling and Localism: Local is the Political versus Supply Side Administration of Food

Image hosting by Photobucket

Mystery food is Orwellian-ly and totally misleadingly called "label conformity" in this corporate-biased piece of propoganda and legislation rolled into one. They are concerned that local people, wanting and gaining more knowledege about how to eat right might cut into the anonymous low grade montage of bilk they sell or pump into everyone. And they are right. The pink elephant in the room is in those little pink packets: the New Mexico state level laws and desires that are building to ban cheap sugar substitute of aspartame. This is a drawing of the battle lines between the interests of the consumer and how the interests of the corporation are totally at odds with it materially speaking, or in terms of knowledge about the materials.

Certainly like most Bush neocon legislation ("Healthy Forest"...Clearcutting bills; "Healthy Skies"...Coal Power Plant Expansions and Off-Regulation Bills, etc.; The fascist "Patriot Act", etc.) all show a use of Orwellian inversals.

However, we can indeed have label conformity--that is pro consumer, by allowing for uniform standards to appreciate locality in labeling. Including a great deal of information on the label can be the conforming standard. However, the supply side informally gatekept idea of "label conformity" really means corporate informal political clientelism and means consumer conformity and institutionalized ignorance.

And the larger that the food corporations get, the more they cut corners and food's interconnected nutritional and ecological soundness (with pesticides/herbicides used more and more in scaled agricultulre), and even economic soundness. The three issues of health, ecology, and economics really call these shallow corporate corporate ideas totally into question.

The labelling issues story is one that everyone should follow--how politics of labelling can be either in the benefit of the consumer, or in this bill, designed to engineer a forced repressive consumerism with less choices available and with more consumers in the (corporate) dark because they want to micromanage consumer behavior from central locations in distant offices, instead of listen to and respond to consumer behavior. Such corporate consumptive ignorance and ambivalance of the risks are at root in the short term bottom lines (nonplanning) of corporations.

This goes well with the points raised in the Supply Versus Demand article. It's what you might even call a textbook example of the supply versus demand principle, as scale expands the material and ideological (i.e., knowledge) interests of consumers and the interests of supply side organizations and actors completely diverge. Ideally, consumers should have access to all the information about their purchase they want. From the point of view of the supply-side ideal, consumers should all be force fed in complete ignorance and lack of choice to maintain the clientelism sitution desired of whatever the corporation wants to give them.

Ideally as mentioned in the proposals of Toward A Bioregional State:

Consumer rights shall always trump supply side rights of organizations and sellers when it comes to any of the issues of (a) basic knowledge about the commodity; (b) the capacity for discriminative choice from the point of view of the consumer which shall be maintained; (c) when it comes to issues of individual and public health, (d) of ecological interactive effects, and (e) of economic sustainability.

In issues of human health, ecological issues, and economic sustainability, the smaller jurisdictional level has more awareness, knowledge, and interest in these endeavors; therefore jurisdictional sovereignty of smaller jurisdiction over the larger state should be the uniform principle in these issues of material commodity regulation.

Congress Poised to Pass Bill Taking Away Right to Know What's in Your Food

Tell your Congressman or Congresswoman to vote "No" on House of Representatives Bill H.R. 4167, the "National Uniformity for Food Act"

The House of Representatives will vote this week on a controversial "national food uniformity" labeling law that will take away local government and states' power to require food safety food labels such as those required in California and other states on foods or beverages that are likely to cause cancer, birth defects, allergic reactions, or mercury poisoning. This bill would also prevent citizens in local municipalities and states from passing laws requiring that genetically engineered foods and ingredients such as Monsanto's recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone (rBGH) be labeled.

The House will vote March 2, 2006 on a bill that would gut state food safety and labeling laws. H.R. 4167, the "National Uniformity for Food Act," lowers the bar on food safety by overturning state food safety laws that are not "identical" to federal law. Hundreds of state laws and regulations are at risk, including those governing the safety of milk, fish, and shellfish. The bill is being pushed by large supermarket chains and food manufacturers, spearheaded by the powerful Grocery Manufacturers of America.

Big food corporations and the biotech industry understand that consumers are more and more concerned about food safety, genetic engineering, and chemical-intensive agriculture, and are reading labels more closely. They understand that pesticide and mercury residues and hazardous technologies such as genetic engineering and food irradiation will be rejected if there are truthful labels required on food products. Industry-sponsored H.R. 4167 is gaining momentum and must be stopped! Act now! Preserve local and regional democracy and protect yourself and your family from unsafe food by sending an email or calling your Representative and urging them to vote "No" on H.R. 4167.

Please Take Action Now--Send a Message to Your Congress Member in the House of Representatives to Vote "No" on H.R. 4167

Heroic NM Senator Fights Aspartame Machine

Dr. Betty Martini, D.Hum, Founder
Mission Possible International
2-19-2006

I had the pleasure of meeting with Senator Gerald Ortiz y Pino who sponsored the New Mexico Senate aspartame bill. No doubt the lobbyists with the morals of rapists preyed on his mind...and today he wrote this letter:

Aspartame Buys Time

By Senator Jerry Ortiz y Pino
2-19-2006

Nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to the corrosive influence of money on our public policy. I'm not just talking about the shenanigans inside the beltway of our nation's capitol-that Congress is for sale to the highest bidder has unfortunately become a practically accepted tenet of the American belief system.

So accepted is it that the astounding arrogance and venality being revealed by the current Tom Delay and Jack Abramoff scandals in the District of Columbia scarcely produce raised eyebrows, let alone outrage.

But I'm not just talking about that.

Nor am I talking only about the way that [centralized] moneyed interests are able to sway [and demote] local government toward policies that benefit those interests; hey, we apparently prefer a system in which local elections go to the highest bidder and business-as-usual involves twisting contractors' arms to secure campaign contributions.

Instead, today I'd like to zero-in on the pressure applied to our third level of representative government, the carryings-on that occur in the halls of State Government ... in all its branches.

And from among at least a dozen recent, painful examples of how big business manages to protect itself from such wet-blanket considerations as the good of the public, I'd like to select one as a representative: the continued approval of the reliance by processed food and beverage manufacturers on the chemical aspartame.

As an artificial sweetener, one now being added to some 6,000 products, it is difficult for most Americans to not consume aspartame daily. Its safety (and clearing up any doubts about that safety) would seem to be of critical importance to millions of us. But any discussion of this topic has been postponed in New Mexico indefinitely-through influence exerted by representatives hired by the Japanese manufacturer of aspartame, the Ajinomoto Corporation.

Those well-connected hired hands managed, in December, to frighten the State Environmental Improvement Board (EIB) into backing off of the public hearings into aspartame's safety that they had originally agreed to conduct this coming summer. They managed this delay by challenging the authority of the State of New Mexico to review anything already approved by the Federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and by threatening to sue the state if we tried to do so.

Then those same hired hands resurfaced (augmented by the addition to their team roster of Butch Maki, a close confidant of Gov. Bill Richardson) in time to quash all attempts to discuss the matter during the just-concluded State Legislature.

There was one hearing on the subject and it drew significant numbers of the industry lobbyists, all of whom asserted the same party line: The substance is perfectly safe; the Federal Government has looked at it carefully and who the heck is New Mexico, anyway, to raise any questions about it? [Because in issues of human health, ecological issues, and econmic sustainability issues and commodity heath the smaller state should be soverign over the larger.]

The committee succumbed, and turned down the measure to ban aspartame 7-2.

That half-hour hearing was the total discussion of the matter this year in the public arena in New Mexico, unless the EIB board changes its mind and decides to call Ajinomoto's bluff by going ahead and holding a hearing.

The incredible spectacle of corporate hirelings exerting this kind of influence is, to our great shame, all too common in our state. The Legislature has resisted reforming campaign finance laws to inject some real muscle, which leaves the door wide open to the corporate powers to throw money around strategically, buying whatever access they need or blocking their opposition's access to the policymakers.

But no one should be surprised that Ajinomoto would rely on muscle to protect its profits from aspartame. The entire history of this product's approval by the FDA is rife with muscle flexing ... and very little in the way of science. Originally, it was a patent of the Searle Pharmaceutical Company. And beginning in the late '60s, the FDA repeatedly turned down Searle's submissions for approval, the results of its testings leaving serious doubts in the minds of FDA scientists.

All of that changed in 1981 when Ronald Reagan took the presidency. He listened to the then head of Searle, Donald Rumsfeld, (yes, that Donald Rumsfeld) who bypassed the scientists and went straight to the new Reagan appointee at FDA. Within weeks, the scientists were overruled and aspartame was approved. Several FDA scientists resigned in protest. They even alleged that Searle had fabricated results in the testing submitted.

Twenty-five years later, the evidence is mounting that our growing incidence of brain tumors, organ cancers and neurological diseases has followed the introduction of so many artificially created additives and chemicals in our food. It's only a matter of time until even Ajinomoto's money won't be able to block the unavoidable link between these unnecessary products and our decline in health.

When that happens, as it finally did to tobacco and lead and other heavy metals found in gasoline, we will act. The sad thing is that thousands of deaths and ruined lives will occur between now and then.

One of the cruel ironies to aspartame is that it was supposed to create sugar-free soft drinks for the benefit of diabetics. Since its introduction, the incidence of diabetes has soared. Some critics link the two. What is clear is that it ain't helping.

With all that money and muscle behind it, aspartame has evaded its comeuppance for another year. But the final reckoning can only be postponed, not avoided.

End of the Senator's letter

Last month there was still another study: http://www.wnho.net/new_greek_aspartame_studies.htm Bottom line: Alzheimers

We are now taking aspartame brain tumor cases in New York and New Jersey for litigation, three year statute of limitations.

When I think of the Calorie Control Council sending out press releases trying to prevent the public from believing these studies, as they have done since the New York Times article, I think of the millions of babies murdered in their mother's womb as the CCC pushes this toxin on pregnant women. May they receive within themselves the recompense for their error, and may Jehovah God see to it, and add to it.

New Cancer Study Obligates
FDA To Recall Aspartame

From Dr. Betty Martini, D.Hum
2-28-2006

OPEN LETTER TO FDA - VIA CERTIFIED MAIL

DELANEY AMENDMENT: If a product causes cancer in animals it cannot be put in food!

The late FDA Toxicologist, Dr. Adrian Gross, testified to the Senate: "In view of all these indications that the cancer-causing potential of aspartame is a matter that had been established way beyond any reasonable doubt, one can ask: What is the reason for the apparent refusal by the FDA to invoke for this food additive the so-called Delaney Amendment to the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act?

Is it not clear beyond any shadow of a doubt that aspartame has caused brain tumors or brain cancer in animals?

"Given that this is so (and I cannot see any kind of tenable argument opposing the view that aspartame causes cancer) how would the FDA justify its position that it views a certain amount of aspartame (50mgm/kgm body weight) as constituting an ADI (Allowable Daily Intake) or "safe" level of it? Is that position not equivalent to setting a "tolerance" for this food additive and thus a violation of that law? And if the FDA itself elects to violate the law, who is left to protect the health of the public?"

Your toxicologist admitted you broke the law by approving aspartame.

He also said the significance of the studies is much greater if one considers that brain tumors in rats is very rare: "the historical control rate for such tumors amongst large populations of rats indicates that no more than 49 animals afflicted with them have been found amongst nearly 60,000 rats, an incidence rate of less than 1/10th of 1% FDA never fails to consider this aspect of the "historical control" incidence. ... One cannot help wondering just why they failed to consider this particular aspect in reference to the cancer-induction of aspartame. Had they addressed the historical incidence of brain tumors amongst rats as presented by Dr. Olney, they could not have failed to conclude what I have concluded: - tumors amongst the rats exposed to aspartame increases many-fold " 8/1/85 Senate, S 10839 - 10840

FDA broke other laws, as shown in the National Soft Drink Association's long protest against approval, found in the Senate Congressional Record of 5/7/85 Pages S5507-9: "Section 402 of the FDC Act 21 provides a food is adulterated if it contains, in whole or in part 'a decomposed substance or if it is otherwise unfit for food'. Searle has not demonstrated to a reasonable certainty that aspartame and its degradation products are safe for use in soft drinks. ... Aspartame is inherently markedly and uniquely unstable in aqueous media. In a liquid such as a soft drink aspartame will degrade as a function of temperature and pH."

The hotter it gets the quicker aspartame decomposes. NSDA next reveals Searle deliberately used the wrong test: "High pressure liquid chromatography is a far superior analytical method relative to thin layer chromatography and numerous HPLC methods exist for the detection and quantification of amino acids. Searle's choice of TLC over HPLC adversely affected the quality and type of analytical data generated on aspartame and its decomposition products in soft drinks.. .. an important decomposition product of aspartame, aspartic acid cannot be detected at all using TLC. The inability to account for as much as 39% of aspartame's decomposition products is significant. The marked and rapid decomposition of aspartame in soft drinks under temperatures known to prevail is apparent from data in the present record and discussed above in these objections."

When responsible scientists, physicians and legislators try to protect us from these criminals the industry with bottomless checkbooks annihilate our rights and welfare. Arizona DHS studies showed aspartame in beverages breaks down into free methanol, wood alcohol, formaldehyde, diketopiperazine, formic acid (among other toxins), and a ban of aspartame was being considered. In 1985 Dr. Woodrow Monte, Director of Food Science and Nutrition Lab, Arizona State University, petitioned for a hearing to ban aspartame, because high temperatures in that state accelerate methanol and formaldehyde formation. By an unusual maneuver the legislature altered the text in a Toxic Waste Bill so to ban regulation of FDA-approved food additives. This scuttled the hearing Dr. Monte had been promised.

How are these abominations maneuvered? G. D. Searle lobbyists were Andrew Herwitz, Governor Babbitt's former Chief of Staff, and other powerful hacks. Then Searle officials contributed to the campaign of Arizona House Majority Leader Burton Barr. The Committee to Reelect Barr gave campaign contributions to state representatives Don Aldridge, Karen Mills, & Jan Breuer. They all voted on the side of G. D. Searle. The legislators were bought and paid for, and cared not for Arizona citizens. (Gordon 1987)

Another trampled law: Interstate Commerce regulations prohibit shipping adulterated products, including drugs, across state lines. All aspartame products are adulterated!

By law an additive must be inert. It's illegal to sell a drug as an additive. In original studies aspartame triggered brain, mammary, uterine, ovarian, testicular, thyroid and pancreatic tumors and is an excitoneurotoxic carcinogenic drug. The 2005 3-year Ramazzini Study on 1,800 rats confirmed what FDA knew from the beginning: aspartame is a multipotential carcinogen that caused leukemia, cancer of the kidneys, lymphoma and cancer of the cranial peripheral nerves. Only the rats fed aspartame developed malignant brain tumors. Producers complain researchers let test animals finish their lives rather than killing them at 24 months before most cancers develop. Standard practice is to kill the animals before they get sick. The Ramazzini study was peer reviewed by 7 world experts.

So FDA's Consumer Online Magazine, February 2006 assures us: "[Aspartame] has come under fire in recent years from individuals who have used the Internet in an attempt to link the sweetener to brain tumors and other serious disorders. But FDA stands behind its original approval of aspartame, and subsequent evaluations have shown that the product is safe. A tiny segment of the population is sensitive to one of the sweetener's byproducts and should restrict intake. However, the agency continually monitors safety information on food ingredients such as aspartame and may take action to protect public health if it receives credible scientific evidence indicating a safety problem"

"A tiny segment?" How about everyone who uses it? In 1995 FDA listed 92 symptoms from 10,000 volunteered consumer complaints including 4 types of seizures, sexual dysfunction, dozens of neurological problems, comas and death. So you stopped publishing the list and now deny it existed. I've sent another 10,000. Renowned doctors have written you. An avalanche of case histories has swept over you from afflicted victims and survivors nationwide. I have copies of them. You want credible scientific evidence? Consider this:

For 16 years FDA rejected aspartame because of brain tumors. Then Don Rumsfeld, CEO of G. D. Searle Co, went to Washington with Reagan and the next day his buddy Arthur Hayes was appointed FDA Commissioner. To avoid any action against aspartame by the outgoing Commissioner an executive freeze order was ordered by Ronald Reagan treacherously making him powerless till Hayes got to town. Reagan was a tragic Alzheimer's victim, a dread affliction aspartame invokes. It is rumored he was addicted to Equal, this brain eradicating neurotoxin, and memory loss is number 9 on your list of 92 symptoms, right under seizures, number 8.

Now Hayes approved aspartame over the objections of his own scientific Board of Inquiry. Searle was in money trouble until Hayes, Rumsfeld's stooge, opened the golden door. Hayes soon was under investigation for conflict-of-interest, so he escaped with a 10-year consulting contract from Searle's PR firm for a reported $1,000/day. Consultants don't need to show up for work; just answer questions on the phone, you know: How's the fishing, Artie?"

Doctor Ralph Walton's investigation of funding & study-results revealed 92% of independent studies show aspartame is a toxin. To show aspartame is safe the producers have to buy & control the study, as they did the Arizona legislature.
http://www.dorway.com/peerrev.html

Roger Williams, Member of Parliament, has called for a British ban. England wouldn't have approved aspartame had FDA's intended indictment been known. Searle sneaked it thru by dealing with Paul Turner of Food Standards, who approved it without publicity. A Guardian article detailed the collusion.

FDA asked the Justice Department to prosecute G. D. Searle Co. for fraud, but the producers hired the prosecutors and the case expired with the statute of limitations. Neat trick! As an encore a parade of FDA officials including 3 Commissioners have been welcomed into the aspartame business. Telling FDA of aspartame toxicity is complaining to the Mafia about murder.

In the CDC documentary: SWEET MISERY: A POISONED WORLD [amazon.com & Barnes & Noble] see Atty. James Turner, former Nader Raider, explain how Don Rumsfeld called in his markers to get it approved. FDA had revoked approval because of the brain tumor issue, and because it was not proven safe, leaving this question: For 16 years until Hayes overruled your Board of Inquiry the FDA denied approval and tried to indict Searle for fraud: So why lie about it now? Is there another answer than political corruption? Meanwhile you attempt a rule change to prevent states from writing food safety laws. Do you intend to now go against the Bill of Rights, 9 and 10th amendment which forbids removing the rights of the people and the states?

In the Falklands Robin Goodwin has called for a ban. In New Mexico Stephen Fox has petitioned the Environmental Improvement Board and the Board of Pharmacy to ban aspartame in New Mexico based on the fact that aspartame is adulterated and against the law. Governor Bill Richardson III has been asked by 10 New Mexico State Senators to declare a state of public health emergency, in accordance with NMSA 12-10A-5. The emergency derives from consumers in New Mexico consuming methanol and formaldehyde, derivative aspartame metabolites.

You say you "may" take action to protect public health if you receive credible scientific evidence indicating a safety problem? A mountain of absolute evidence is in your possession! The impeccable Italian study proves aspartame is "a multipotential carcinogen". The bottom line of the new Greek study is Alzheimers. The world's population are guinea pigs, daily proving aspartame destroys the brain, central nervous system, immune system and retina, causes cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, precipitates diabetes, interacts with all drugs and vaccines, triggers obesity and is an endocrine disrupting drug, an abortifacient, adjuvant and teratogen that brings birth defects and retardation. University of Texas epidemiological study on 8 years data linked diet drinks with obesity just a few months ago.

Obviously your allegiance is to Big Pharma & their lobbyists, who are the Washington infestation destroying America with chemical weapons of mass destruction, while you pretend to be saviors and seek to outlaw vitamins and herbs.
http://www.renewamerica.us/columns/spingola/060207

You once attempted to indict G. D. Searle at a time when you had some conscience under Title 18, Section 1001.

This US Criminal Code declares: "Whoever, in an matter within the jurisdiction of the executive, legislative or judicial matter branch of the Government of the United States, knowingly and willfully
* (1) falsifies, conceals, or covers up by any trick, scheme, or device a material fact;
* (2) makes any materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or representation;
* (3) or make or uses any false writing or document knowing the same to contain any materially false,
fictitious, or fraudulent statement or entry, shall be fined under the title or imprisoned.

Today FDA, you are now guilty of the same crime as you deceive the public by telling them aspartame is safe when you have full knowledge it is not only not safe, but that you wanted the manufacturer indicted for fraud. Your own toxicologists, Dr. Adrian Gross and Dr. Jacqueline Verrett observed Searle researchers' manipulation attempting to make a poison show safety. They just couldn't do it as Jerome Bressler explained in the FDA audit. They were caught.

Four years ago I filed a Citizens Petition for ban:
http://www.wnho.net/citizens_aspartame_petition.htm The law requires an answer in 180 days, which law you broke, and brazenly wrote me that you have matters of higher priority. Saving consumer lives is low priority? Or was it impossible to answer my petition that proved from government records that you lie to America?

James Bowen, M.D. with Lou Gehrigs disease from aspartame, wrote FDA: "The only responsible action would be to immediately take aspartame off the market, fully disclose its toxicities, offer full compensation to the injured, public and criminally prosecute anyone who participated in the fraudulent placement of aspartame on the marketplace. That includes those who work so diligently to keep it on the market as well."

In secret trade information Searle said: "With the spoon-for-spoon, we have no way of estimating maximum likely abuse and hence need to utilize data based on almost complete conversion to DKP. If we include this use in the original FAP, we stand a good chance of ending up with nothing in the short run and nothing in the long run where as the other approach would give us something in the short run and, quite likely as much as we would ever get in the long run." DKP is the brain tumor agent. They knew aspartame would cause these tumors worldwide. Premeditated mass murder!
www.dorway.com

Heroic New Mexico Senator Gerald Ortiz y Pino who just sponsored the bill to ban aspartame said
"Nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to the corrosive influence of money on our public policy... the final reckoning can only be postponed, not avoided"
http://www.rense.com/general69/nmm2.htm

I demand that you invoke the Delaney Amendment! James Turner, who with Dr. John Olney worked to prevent aspartame approval, declares the Delaney Amendment remains as written, although many have attempted to try and repeal it and Michael Taylor wrote a clause attempting to minimize it. Yet they did not succeed he says and it is as valid today as the day it became the law. The Ramazzini study confirms aspartame is a virulent carcinogen. This requires FDA to invoke the Delaney Amendment which is emphatic if a product causes cancer in animals it CANNOT BE PUT IN FOOD.

This should have been done a quarter of a century ago as your scientists advocated. Refusal will confirm once more that FDA is run by political lapdogs dedicated to their personal aggrandizement, treacherously condemning multitudes to disability and death. Mission Possible is a global volunteer force warning consumers about aspartame because FDA refuses to fulfill its commission to enforce laws that protect us.

We're taking aspartame brain tumor cases in NY and NJ for litigation, and this is just the beginning. This is written as an open letter so all reading it will send it to their congressman, explaining how FDA has sanctioned mass poisoning by bureaucratic fiat.

Be warned: A higher judge untouched by bribes has pronounced the inevitable consequence of such duplicity: "Woe to you who are despoiling and who are dealing treacherously As soon as you have finished as a despoiler, you will be despoiled. As soon as you have done with dealing treacherously, they will deal treacherously with you." Isaiah 33:1 NWT

Battle opens on food labeling proposal
Lawmakers butt heads over plan to scrap tough state laws in favor of [lax or non-existant consumer supporting] federal rules

- Zachary Coile, Chronicle Washington Bureau
Friday, March 3, 2006

Washington -- Federal lawmakers [if you can call criminals lawmakers] on Thursday sparred over a bill to pre-empt all state food safety labeling laws that are tougher than federal rules, including California's Proposition 65, which requires food manufacturers to list any cancer- or birth-defect-causing substances in their products.

The House put off a vote on the bill until next week after House Rules Committee Chairman David Dreier, R-San Dimas (Los Angeles County), concluded that lawmakers could not finish debate before many left for a post-Hurricane Katrina visit to the Gulf Coast.

But the controversy over the food labeling bill appears to be growing.

A bipartisan group of 37 state attorneys general, including California's Bill Lockyer, sent a letter to Congress on Wednesday warning that the measure could undermine state's rights and consumer protections. ["could undermine"? What about "definitely remove all".]

"Important consumer warnings about mercury in fish, arsenic in drinking water and lead in cans are just a few examples of state food labeling requirements that would be eviscerated by this bill," the letter warned.

Supporters of the bill argue that a single national standard for food safety is needed to [kill the Arizona potential hearings on the known toxicity of aspartame, that was illegally authorized by scientific fraud through the use of Donald Rumsfeld in 1980, and] avoid confusion [and all information] for consumers and food producers, who complain about having to create different food labels for different states. [Sounds good to me. Then we would have more local sourcing of food items more readily available and supported, and more knowledgable consumers.]

"These different state standards hamper the flow of interstate commerce," said Rep. Phil Gingrey, R-Ga. "They also lead to increased costs to manufacturers and distributors that are then, of course, passed on to consumers." [actually the real costs will be passed on once consumers only when consumers are totally in the dark about the externalities in their bodies because of corporate consolidation of their food items and refuals to tell them what is in their food.]

Critics of the bill, however, describe the legislation as an effort by food manufacturers to undo many state laws and regulations they previously opposed.

"The real effect of this legislation will be the deregulation of the United States food industry," said Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Los Angeles.

The food industry has been lobbying Congress to pass similar legislation for two decades, spurred by California voters' approval of Prop. 65 in 1986.

Supporters of the bill include industry giants such as Nestle USA, the [Skull and Bones connected] HJ Heinz Co., Kraft Foods [a major presser of unregulared GMO foods, see previous article on GMOs on this point and the Flash Animation there] and Sara Lee Corp [products full of hydrogenated oils that don't do anything except collect in fatty tissue and have been connected with lymphomna]., as well as supermarket chains and trade associations that have joined to form the National Uniformity for Food Coalition. [to stop and reduced consumer choice as well as impose consumer risk on their shoppers.]

The Congressional Budget Office estimates that at least 200 state laws or regulations could be invalidated by the new measure.

[Note all the affirmitive localism that has grown up in the United States, that the corporate destroyers want to kill in the name of totalitarian food:]

Among them:

-- A law passed by the Alaska Legislature last year that requires labeling of any genetically engineered fish sold in the state.

-- A provision in Maine requiring signs stating that eating smoked alewives can pose a health risk.

-- A state law in Oregon requiring that any food that has been "salvaged" disclose that fact.

-- A requirement in California that supermarkets and other stores post health warnings about the high levels of mercury in certain fish.

The new bill would allow states to petition [and beg without any rights innately like they have, to "request" that] the Food and Drug Administration...keep their laws in effect. But the secretary of Health and Human Services could approve the exemptions only if states can prove there is no other way to protect public health and the law would not "unduly burden [a built-in bias toward risk creating corporate megalithic] interstate commerce."

"Can you imagine that sovereign states of this country have to go hat in hand to a federal bureaucracy to allow them to continue laws that their people accepted, passed under their rules by state legislatures and governors, to protect their population?" Waxman said.

Sponsors of the bill [strategically like and] claim the effect of the measure is being exaggerated. They noted that Congress has previously approved national standards for nutrition labeling, beef and poultry inspections, and other food-related issues [though always incredibly low and mostly useless to make it look like the corporations were actually feeding you well, when the data tend to show the increasing paucity of nutrition in foods over the past 80 years for the same servings. See other articles in this blog on that.]

"You're not going to find any family in America that thinks we ought to have 50 states and 50 different organizations trying to determine what is safe in our food and what is not," said Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich., the chief sponsor of the measure. [Don't listen to him. With vote fraud, he probabaly wasn't really elected anyway. He has a conflict of interest in saying that of course. Obviously, what he's scared of would indeed be a better and more democratic and more healthful arrangement.]

The bill faces strong opposition from state regulators, including the Association of Food and Drug Officials and the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture.

They argue that many state rules protecting the public health will be eliminated simply because there is no equivalent federal rule.

The legislation has 226 co-sponsors, including 59 Democrats, and appears to have enough support to pass the House.

A vote Thursday on the rule for debating the bill next week was approved by a 216-to-197 margin. [do contact your Congresslemmings above at the petition link at least.]

But the measure faces greater hurdles in the more evenly divided Senate, where seven Democratic lawmakers have sent a letter to their colleagues opposing the bill. Both of California's Democratic senators have vowed to try to block the measure.

This is live and going on, they voted to debate it. Give them information on the ridiculously risky things and reduction of consumer choices that this entails, as well as the institutionalized corruption that will be developed without any kind of local feedback about risk.

Call for Big Food Brand Boycott

BELLOWS FALLS -- Responding to the U.S. House of Representatives' passage of the controversial "National Uniformity in Food Act," the bill that would wipe out more than 200 state laws protecting consumers from infected, toxic and carcinogenic food, leading food safety advocates call for a boycott of the big food brands who wrote the legislation and lobbied Congress to secure its passage. The legislation is the most sweeping deregulation of our national food safety rules in the 100 years since the passage of the nation's first food protections, the Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906.

This Act eliminates ways to alert the public to health hazards in our food and water with potentially deadly consequences for the most vulnerable-- infants, pregnant women, immune-compromised and elderly individuals.

States have played the main role for many decades in protecting consumers from hazards such as mercury in fish, arsenic in water, genetically modified ingredients in common foods, carcinogens in processed foods, and pathogens in raw and undercooked foods, problems largely ignored or inadequately addressed by USDA, FDA and EPA, which have already been charged with this responsibility.

"At a time when we know that there are 72 million bouts of illness, 325,000 hospitalizations, and more than 5000 deaths each year as the result of food poisoning, what justification can there be for destroying the minimal food safety protections now in place? As we import more food from third world countries with poor food sanitation, we need more and better regulations, not fewer and weaker ones," says former USDA insider, Dr. Luise Light, nutritionist and food safety activist, who is calling for a big food brand boycott to drive home the outrage of many consumers and food, health and environmental professionals to the legislation passed in the House on March 8, 2006, without public input.

Other groups on record as opposing the bill are: 30 state Attorneys General, the Association of Food and Drug Professionals, the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture, Consumers Union, Consumer Federation of America, the Organic Consumers Association, the Center for Science in the Public Interest, and numerous other consumer and environmental groups all of whom urge the Senate to vote to undo the damage done by the House.

Join the boycott of big food brands whose parent companies steamrolled this legislation. For just one month, buy only local, regional, fresh, and organic food. Avoid all the packaged, bottled and bagged foods and drinks in grocery and convenience stores, and when eating out, avoid the chains. "If we speak with our wallets and our actions, we will be heard," says Light.

PROJECT RECALL ASPARTAME, WHERE TO WRITE:
LETTER TO THE FDA COMMISSIONER

Dr. Betty Martini
Mission Possible World Health International

Duluth, Georgia 30097
Telephone: 770-242-2599
E-Mail: BettyM19@mindspring.com

Posted: 19 July 2006

To: commissioner@fda.gov
From: Dr. Betty Martini, D.Hum. Bettym19@mindspring.com
Subject: FDA Commissioner Dr. Andrew Von Eschenback: Aspartame Recall

Dear Dr. Von Eschenbach:

When you were working for the National Cancer Institute you declared a goal of "eliminating suffering and death due to cancer by 2015". If you really mean it you should immediately recall aspartame, an excitoneurotoxic carcinogenic drug masquerading as an additive used by 70% of the population and over 30% of children. That it causes cancer is a given. Read FDA's own audit on aspartame, the Bressler Report, mentioning such things as adenocarcinoma and brain tumors. Jerome Bressler exposed how Searle was caught excising these brain tumors, putting the rats back in the study and then resurrecting them on paper. FDA's own toxicologist, Dr. Adrian Gross, wrote to Senator Howard Metzenbaum two letters listing brain tumors found in studies.

Here are both letters as well as a memo: http://www.dorway.com/gross.txt

FDA's toxicologist, Dr. Adrian Gross, also testified before Congress that aspartame violated the Delaney Amendment which says if a product causes cancer in animals it cannot be put in food. The recent Ramazzini Study in Italy confirmed again that aspartame is a multipotential carcinogen. http://www.wnho.net/cancer_study_obligates_recall.htm

The law requires FDA recall this carcinogen. There are no excuses that can change this.

Attorney James Turner, Esquire, author of the Chemical Feast and the Nader Report on Food Protection at FDA said this on the issue of aspartame and cancer: "Since l974 FDA and the Searle Drug Company have known that aspartame causes brain tumors in animals. Since Nov of l980 the public has known the Public Board of Inquiry affirmed the nature of the Searle studies that showed cancer in animals and ruled that it should not be used in the food supply. Since 1992 we have known that there was a 10% rise in human brain tumors the year following the introduction of NutraSweet/aspartame into the market. Since l991 we have known there was a mechanism that transforms NutraSweet/aspartame into a known carcinogenic substance. It is past time that the FDA invoked the Delaney Clause and remove NutraSweet from the market. Most recently in July of 2005 further studies (Ramazzini) have underscored the cancer causing capability of NutraSweet/aspartame in animals." You can see Mr. Turner in Sweet Misery: A Poisoned World. Here he tells how aspartame got approved when the FDA said no. http://www.soundandfury.tv/pages/rumsfeld2.html

Aspartame remains in violation of the Delaney Clause. Industry has tried for years to ban it but Delaney Lives. Here is the article from the Environmental Law Reporter: http://mpwhi.com/delaney_lives.htm

Russell Blaylock, M.D., a Board Certified Neurosurgeon (Ret), author of Excitotoxins: The Taste that Kills about aspartame, Health & Nutrition Secrets That Can Save Your Life and Natural Strategies for Cancer Patients, said this today:

"I have been impressed with the number and quality of research demonstrating the harmful, accumulative toxic effects of the aspartame product. Research demonstrating DNA damage from aspartame's metabolic components are beyond question. Likewise, the effects of each component of aspartame, the aspartate, phenylalanine and methanol, have been demonstrated. We know that aspartame in conjunction with MSG greatly enhance excitotoxicity, a central mechanism of a great number of degenerative neurological disorders, including Alzheimer's dementia, Parkinson's disease, ALS and multiple sclerosis. In addition, we better understand this link and that all of these conditions could be made worse and advance faster in the face of aspartame consumption. There is also compelling evidence to indicate that heavy aspartame consumption can unmask subclinical cases of MS into full blown cases. In the face of all we know about the harmful effects of this product its further use should be banned."

Dr. Blaylock is also a visiting professor of Biology at Belhaven College. In his book Excitotoxins he discusses the brain tumor issue in full.

Ralph G. Walton, M.D., Medical Director of Safe Harbor Behavioral Health, professor of Clinical Psychiatry, Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine, Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry, Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine also today discussed the issue of aspartame. He said:

"When I first published a paper on adverse reactions to aspartame more than 20 years ago I felt that, with appropriate warnings, it could remain on the market. Over the past two decades, however, I have seen such severe adverse clinical consequences to the use of this artificial sweetener that I am convinced that it needs to be removed from the market. It clearly lowers seizure threshold, alters brain chemistry in a fashion which aggravates multiple underlying psychiatric disorders, paradoxically contributes to weight gain, can mimic neurological diseases such as MS, and produces metabolites which are known carcinogens. Tragically the medical literature is split on the question of aspartame's safety. Independently funded studies invariably identify one or more problems, whereas essentially all of the literature attesting to aspartame's safety is funded by the industry."

When Dr. John Olney made world news in l996 on the aspartame and brain tumor association, Dr. Walton was on 60 Minutes with his research showing that 92% of all independent scientific peer reviewed studies showed problems. He said if you removed 6 studies FDA had something to do with because of the controversy, and one pro-aspartame summary, 100% of unbiased independent studies showed the problems. Only industry funded studies said it was safe. http://www.dorway.com/peerrev.html

Yet FDA sold out the people again. Acting FDA Commissioner Dr. Michael Friedman stated on 60 Minutes that aspartame did not cause brain tumors, even though his own FDA records showed that it did. Itwas so shameful I flatly asked him when he would get his reward from Monsanto. In June l999 they hired Dr. Friedman as VP of Searle for a half a million dollars. Quite a reward.

In the Ramazzini Study only rats fed aspartame developed malignant brain tumors. http://www.wnho.net/new_aspartame_studies.htm

Aspartame also caused leukemia, lymphoma, cancer of the kidneys and peripheral nerves, especially cranial.

Neurochemist Dr. Peter Nunn and Geoffrey Pilkington did a study at Kings College about 4 years ago having to do with aspartame and brain tumors which is as yet unpublished. In it was this statement: "When we exposed human brain tumor cells to nitrosated DKP the cells became more motile and their rate of proliferation was significantly elevated. While it is somewhat early to speculate, it is possible that the aspartame breakdown product may be capable of enhancing the rate of malignant progression of pre-existing (and possibly clinically silent, undiagnosed) tumours in the brain."

This agrees with Dr. John Olney's findings who founded the field of neuroscience called Excitotoxicity and tried to prevent aspartame's approval. He is one of the most renowned neuroscientists in the world today.

For even more on the cover-up of aspartame as a carcinogen read a list of the whoppers from industry: http://www.wnho.net/whopper.htm It's all in the record.

FDA has always served above the law for over a quarter of a century. The law says you must answer a Citizens Petition within 180 days. I wrote a petition four years ago and the only response I got was FDA had more important things to do. FDA didn't answer it because they know aspartame is a neurotoxin and has lied to the public. I told them not to send a packet of propaganda, but answer my petition. Here it is: http://www.wnho.net/citizens_aspartame_petition.htm After more than two decades on the market FDA knows well the destructive and fatal consequences of this poison. The FDA's own list of 92 symptoms includes four types of seizures to coma and death.

H. J. Roberts, M.D., testified before Congress and said at his first press conference that if something wasn't done immediately in 5 or 10 years we would have a global plague on our hands. Today Aspartame Disease is fast becoming one of the deadliest plagues in history. I've taken histories of the sick and dying for 15 years, and every victim knows a dozen more cases. Dr. Roberts medical text, Aspartame Disease: An Ignored Epidemic is 1038 pages of horrors caused by this excitoneurotoxic carcinogenic drug masquerading as an additive. http://www.sunsentpress.com It interacts with all drugs and vaccines making nothing on the market safe for consumers. http://www.wnho.net/aspartame_interacts.htm

Dr. Roberts wrote today:

"I have studied the adverse effects of aspartame products for a quarter century, and extensively documented them in many articles and four books. They are frequent and often severe -- encompassing numerous neurologic, psychiatric, metabolic, cardiovascular, pulmonary, allergic, endocrine, cutaneous, and pediatric disorders. I have described these reactions as "aspartame disease." (A detailed bibliography is available.)

There also are a host of major pharmacologic and toxicologic considerations, especially poisoning with free methyl alcohol, and genetic (transgenerational) ramifications Indeed, it is my firm conviction that no pregnant woman should use these products.

On the basis of this prolonged experience and research, it is my conclusion as a Board-certified internist that aspartame products constitute an imminent public health threat, and ought to be removed from the market." (HJrobertsmd@aol.com)

You have the evidence. FDA once asked for indictment for Searle under Title 18, Section 1001. Today they are guilty of the same crime by deceiving the public. See your Board of Inquiry Report revoking the petition for approval: http://www.wnho.net/fda_petition1.doc

Dr. John Olney testified to the Board that if aspartame was approved the damage it would do to our children born and unborn as its a teratogen and abortifacient. FDA agreed, one reason they revoked Searle's petition for approval. http://www.wnho.net/dr_olney1.doc

Dr. Olney's prophecy has now been fulfilled. 9/99: Parents Magazine featured the article: "What's Wrong With Our Children?" One mother lamented, "Why aren't our children normal?"

"They are normal," another responded. "Every child has a disorder these days." .... "Their children - and their children's classmates - are being diagnosed with mental health problems at an alarming rate. The National Institute of Mental Health estimates that there are 12 million children under 18 with mental disorders. ... By the end of high school, one in four teens will have seriously considered suicide."

"The problem is so widespread that it's getting hard to find anyone whose son, niece, godchild, or grandchild hasn't been affected. Some observers are calling it an epidemic and demanding that screening programs, just like the ones for tuberculosis and other diseases, be put into place."

Aspartame triggers psychiatric and behavioral problems. 50% of the molecule is phenylalanine that lowers the seizure threshold and depletes serotonin, triggering bipolar or manic depression, suicidal tendencies, panic attacks, paranoia and hallucinations, for starters. Dr. Richard J. Wurtman, of MIT edited: "Dietary Phenylalanine and Brain Function." He testified before Congress and wanted to do studies on aspartame seizures, but was threatened by the VP of Searle if he did research funds would be rejected. They were. http://www.dorway.com/upipart1.html ILSI is a research front group funded by aspartame makers and those using it like Coke. Today MIT gets funds and Dr. Wurtman speaks no more against aspartame. MIT has withdrawn the book. We have copies.

Dr. Louis Elsas, pediatric professor, genetics, then at Emory University, also testified before Congress aspartame is a neurotoxin and teratogen and his research funds were also rejected: Here is part of his testimony before Congress including information on ILSI: http://www.dorway.com/elsas.txt And more: http://www.dorway.com/dr-elsas.txt

Now our kids are addicts on aspartame and drugged with such things as Ritalin for the problems it causes. Aspartame interacts with all drugs and vaccines so our children don't have a chance. Dr. Olney predicted the damage aspartame would do to the brains of our children and especially compounded with MSG which has an additive and synergistic effect. Prior to the marketing of aspartame whoever heard of children on anti-psychotic drugs, or even that there was a problem.

In the book, "Fight For Your Health" by Byron J. Richards is this AP article:

Anti-Psychotics for Kids Raise Concerns:

CHICAGO, Illinois (AP) -- "Soaring numbers of American children are being prescribed anti-psychotic drugs -- in many cases, for attention deficit disorder or other behavioral problems for which these medications have not been proven to work, a study found. The annual number of children prescribed anti-psychotic drugs jumped fivefold between 1995 and 2002, to an estimated 2.5 million, the study said. That is an increase from 8.6 out of every 1,000 children in the mid l990s to nearly 40 out of 1,000" ...

The article continued, "But more than half of the prescriptions were for attention deficit and other non-psychotic conditions, the researchers said. The findings are worrisome "because it looks like these medications are being used for large numbers of children in a setting where we don't know if they work," said lead author Dr. William Cooper, a pediatrician at Vanderbilt children's Hospital."

A New York Times article July 16, 2006 was titled "Checklist for Camp: Bug Spray. Sunscreen. Pills." The article started "The breakfast buffet at Camp Echo starts at a picnic table covered in gingham-patterned oil cloth. Here, children jostle for their morning medications: Zoloft for depression, Abilify for bipolar disorder, Guanfacine for twitchy eyes and a host of medications for attention deficit disorder."

You should find this interesting since bipolar is an adult disease, but now over a million children suffer from it according to the front page article in Time some years ago. This is what aspartame has done to our children. It knows no age as it depletes serotonin from their brain triggering psychiatric and behavioral problems, and interacts with the psycho drugs used to treat the problems it causes. How hideous and the FDA turns it back on the people with its loyalty to Big Pharma who cares not for the lives of our children, just greed in selling more of its dangerous drugs.

Aspartame is addictive. The methanol component is a narcotic bringing chronic methanol poisoning, affecting the dopamine system of the brain and causes the addiction. On 5/17/2006 Dorothy Rugg wrote and said: "My 12 year old and her friends have found a way to get "hyper" by ingesting individual-size packages of Crystal Lite without water. I've brought it to the school's/doctor's attention especially since the girls are emulating illegal drug use - passing it around and sharing like it were a drug - to get "hyper".

Is there a difference in snorting cocaine. One victim once wrote she used cocaine in high school and it was easier to get off cocaine than aspartame. Here is Dr. H. J. Roberts published article on Aspartame and Addiction: http://www.dorway.com/tldaddic.html Other mothers have contacted me that their kids are getting high on the Listerine strips with aspartame. Why does FDA allow marketing of a narcotic to children?

Aspartame is an illegal drug and should immediately be recalled. The protest of the National Soft Drink Association that was added to the May, 1985 congressional hearing admitted aspartame to be illegal because it is adulterated:

"Section 402 of the FDC Act 21 provides a food is adulterated if it contains, in whole or in part "...a decomposed substance or if it is otherwise unfit for food". The National Soft Drink Association in their protest against aspartame approval in l983 recorded this, as found in the Congressional Record of May 7, l985, Page S 5509, Senate.

NSDA knew aspartame decomposes in soft drinks. They objected: "Searle has not demonstrated to a reasonable certainty that aspartame and its degradation products are safe for use in soft drinks. ... Aspartame is inherently markedly and uniquely unstable in aqueous media. In a liquid, such as a soft drink aspartame will degrade as a function of temperature and pH." S5507

Inferior test methods were used by Searle as NSDA explained: "High pressure liquid chromotography is a far superior analytical method relative to thin layer chromatography and numerous HPLC methods exist for the detection and quantification of amino acids. Searle's choice of TLC over HPLC adversely affected the quality and type of analytical data generated on aspartame and its decomposition products in soft drinks." S5507 .... " an important decomposition product of APM, aspartic acid cannot be detected at all using TLC." S 5508

"The inability to account for as much as thirty-nine percent of aspartame's decomposition products is significant." "The marked and rapid decomposition of aspartame in soft drinks under temperatures known to prevail is apparent from data in the present record and discussed above in these objections." S 5509 (So APM could not be legally added to carbonated beverages under Section 402 because it decomposes and NSDA admitted that happens.)

You will find this on http://www.dorway.com and here is the actual May 1985 congressional record: http://wnho.net/congressional_record1.doc

Since its adulterated and a crime to add it to carbonated drinks, it also violates interstate commerce statutes. Aspartame is also illegal because it's an excitoneurotoxic carcinogenic drug masquerading as an additive. Additives must be inert or non-reactive by law.

Aspartame manufacturers have been telling whoppers for years and the FDA fed them h to the public and physicians blinding them from diagnosing and treating aspartame victims. Professional ladies like the American Dietetic and American Diabetes Associations, MS folks and such take money from the manufacturers to push their propaganda in violation of Title 18, Section 1001 because they have been told for years.

So victims of aspartame have had nowhere to turn. Because of this aspartame detoxification centers are being set up in many cities and in other countries to refer victims to so they can help, all because FDA broke the law.

It was July 2005 when the Cancer Research Center of the European Foundation of Oncology and Environmental Sciences in Bologna, Italy reported on a long term study to evaluate the potential carcinogenic effects of aspartame. They said it induces an increase in lymphomas and leukemias. Only the rats fed aspartame developed malignant brain tumors. In September 2005 at an international scientific conference it was announced that aspartame is a multipotential carcinogen which also caused cancer of the kidney and peripheral nerves, mostly cranial. Neurosurgeon Russell Blaylock, M.D. commented: "The new study released in the European Journal of Oncology by Morando Soffritti and co-workers should terrify mothers and all those consuming aspartame sweetened products. This was a carefully done study which clearly demonstrated a statistically significant increase in several types of lymphomas and leukemias in rats. Both of these malignancies have increased significantly in this country since the widespread use of aspartame."

"This study confirmed the previous study by Dr. Trocho and co-workers, which also found the formaldehyde breakdown products of aspartame ato be damaging to cellular DNA and that this damage ewas accumulative. The type of damage was a duplicate of that associated with cancers. Along with this most recent study, this means that drinking a single diet cola sweetened with aspartame everyday could increase one's risk of developing a lymphoma or leukemia."

Dr. Blaylock also said "with children and pregnant women drinking the largest amount of diet colas, this puts their children at the greatest risk of developing one of these horrible disease. Their study found that even low doses of aspartame could cause these malignancies; yet, the higher the dose, the more cancers that were seen."

Sharon Fowler of the University of Texas did an epidemiological study based on 8 years of data linking obesity with diet drinks. Dr. Blaylock also said: "Since aspartame can increase obesity and may even case the metabolic syndrome that affects 48 million Americans, there is no reason to ever consume this product. At the least it should be immediately banned from all schools."

The FDA has broken so many laws we must provide schools with a 24 page brochure on toxic aspartame to save the children have no choice but to provide every school in the nation with a 24 page booklet with this information to save the children, to be published by the Idaho Observer, http://www.idaho-observer.com which issues the Artificially Sweetened Times. Here are three letters to be enclosed in that booklet.

http://www.wnho.net/aspartame_potential_danger.htm Dr. Roberts

http://www.wnho.net/aspartame_and_children_report.htm Dr. Walton

http://www.wnho.net/alabama_boe_meeting.htm Alabama Board of Education

The Ramazzini Study simply confirmed what the FDA saw over two decades ago, a deadly, deadly multipotential carcinogen, that in original studies triggered brain tumors and brain cancer, testicular, ovarian, mammary, pancreatic, thyroid, and uterine tumors.

The Delaney Amendment clearly states if a product causes cancer in animals it can't be put in foods. Instead of immediately removing aspartame from the marketplace, there has been nothing but more efforts at cover-up.

Bogus Aspartame Is Safe Study Exposed by Experts:
http://www.wnho.net/bogus_aspartame_study.htm

NIH and NCI Halt The Spin on Bogus Aspartame Study:
http://www.wnho.net/halt_the_spin_on_bogus_studies.htm

With links to aspartame manufacturers on the committee of the European Safe Food Authority nothing was done. Because the Ramazinni Study was so precise there was no way to cover up the massive carcinogenic effects of aspartame. So EFSA did a despicable thing, they made up a fairy tale. Experts laughed as they tried to get away with "the cancer was due to respiratory disease". Any physician knows that respiratory disease is part of the dying process. Aspartame kills! Dr. Soffritti the Director of the Ramazzini naturally exposed their lie: http://www.ramazzini.it/eng/fondazione/eventidettagli.asp?id=292 Yet, the now discredited European Food Safety Authority has been silent. They had to say something, even a lie, to avoid any action to restrict or prohibit aspartame from European tables because they collude with aspartame producers.

Now FDA says they are investigating Ramazzini. Why? FDA knows aspartame causes cancer and admitted it to Congress. It's on record, and we have it. The Bressler Report exposes shenanigans of Searle in trying to get a their poison approved. http://www.dorway.com/bressler.txt

I personally spoke to Jerome Bressler in 2001 to thank him for releasing the truth. He said when FDA retyped his report they left out the worst 20%, and to attempt to get them to release it. He mentioned two mice studies and a cover letter. Doctors H. J. Roberts and Russell Blaylock confirmed this information after speaking with him.

On November 27, 2001, Dr. Roberts wrote to Bill Nelson in the US Senate and explained how this important information was withheld. He asked for the two mouse studies done at Searle Laboratories which were reviewed by the inspection team of the Chicago District of the Center for Food Safety & Applied Nutrition between April and September of l977. He considered the subject to be an imminent public health hazard, and urged Senator Nelson to put pressure on the FDA to acquire these documents.

On April 18, 2002, Melinda Plaisier, Associate commissioner for Legislation wrote.. "some documents are considered confidential under FDA's FOI regulations and in some instances the Agency cannot acknowledge the existence of such documents." This is hideous; studies show the public is consuming something dangerous and unsafe it immediately becomes confidential and cannot even be acknowledged to exist. I'm quite familiar with Melinda Plaisier and have corresponded with her. Every time she lied I quoted the record to show she was lying. She just lied some more. Finally a magazine in England published a letter.

FDA for years has refused to answer questions like why a product like aspartame is allowed when it liberates free methyl alcohol. Dr. Roberts question has gone unanswered for years. Diane Fleming, a Sunday School teacher from Virginia today cries from her cell in prison. She has lost her children, her home, her husband and her freedom because aspartame killed Charles Fleming. When they found the methanol poisoning with the autopsy also revealing chronic methanol poisoning for years, she was indicted even though she called the police and passed a lie detector test. As one detective said, "she is innocent and I would have stopped the indictment but I was promoted just at that time and couldn't stop it". Several doctors who viewed the autopsy wrote affidavits that Charles Fleming died from aspartame. He was addicted.

Aspartame also damages the cardiac conduction and causes sudden death, so an Athlete Alert was written by Dr. Blaylock: http://www.wnho.net/aspartame_msg_scd.htm

Today so many are dropping dead that two Parliamentarians have petitioned the World Health Organization to declare sudden death a syndrome and track it. FDA knows people drop dead from aspartame, but blame athlete deaths on ephedra. Dr. John Olney reviewed their records and exposed FDA.

See Prescription for Disaster about Big Pharma by Dr. Gary Null. I listened with respect to the words of Dr. Graham of the FDA who exposed them. FDA tried to discredit him, the usual penalty for whistleblowers. All these tactics are expertly exposed in John Stauber's books, "Trust Us, We're Experts", and "Toxic Sludge Is Good For You". One whistleblower also attacked, Alan Jones, said its all ...."you're on your own, there is no longer any safety."

FDA has betrayed the public. Their job has been to enrich Big Pharma. They take their money and approve their deadly drugs, defend them and lie to the people. The FDA lies to doctors telling them aspartame is safe when they know it causes an epidemic of diseases and interacts with drugs. FDA ties the hands of physicians because they can neither diagnose or treat. For example, aspartame is a proven seizure triggering drug. When a doctor sees a victim having an aspartame seizure he doesn't know the cause and immediately puts them on some anti-seizure medication like Dilantin which interacts. FDA has become PR of Big Pharma.

It breaks my heart when someone like young Kelli Motluck with a head full of aspartame brain tumors cries "I want to live, I want to live, I want to live, but if I die you must tell the world that Monsanto murdered me." She left a grieving husband and small child to grow up without a mother.

I remember one pregnant woman refused to quit using aspartame during pregnancy because she said FDA had approved it. Then she gave birth to a baby with a brain tumor. Think of the suffering of that innocent before it died because FDA approved a carcinogen.

The FDA seems most importantly wanting to prevent the public from using safe supplements so Big Pharma can sell more dangerous drugs. I read in USA Today on July 13 the FDA's warning not to use online libido supplements because the products contain chemicals that are similar or identical to the active pharmaceutical ingredients in Viagra and Livitra, and the undeclared ingredients could interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs such as nitroglycerin. But its quite alright to use Viagra. Germany's Health Ministry said even back in 2001 that 616 people had died after using this drug. No deaths from supplements, only drugs.

So why are we spammed daily with hundreds of ads for Viagra in the first place? You have 70% of the population using aspartame which damages the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus produces gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GRH). The GRH goes down the stalk between the hypothalamus and pituitary and causes the pituitary then to produce gonadotropins. The ganglia goes to the testicles and causes them to produce testosterone. When you're causing hypothalmic destruction with neuroexcitotoxins like NutraSweet you're suppressing the formation of male hormone without which there is no sexual drive or pleasure for either. In original studies aspartame triggered atrophied testes and testicular tumors. It's by this route.

So if the FDA is so concerned about interaction why is aspartame on the market interacting with all drugs? Even a recent study in Liverpool proved aspartame interacts with additives. It interacts to interfere with the development of the nervous system. The Liverpool team reported that when mouse nerve cells were exposed to MSG and brilliant blue or aspartame and quinoline yellow in laboratory conditions, combined in concentrations that theoretically reflect the compound that enters the bloodstream after a typical children's snack and drink, the additives stopped the nerve cells growing and interfered with proper signalling system. The report said that exposure to food additives during a child's development has been associated with behavioral problems such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. http://www.organicconsumers.org/toxic/msg010306.cfm

Now a study from Greece.
http://www.wnho.net/new_greek_aspartame_studies.htm This implicates aspartame with learning and memory problems - bottom line Alzheimers. Memory loss is so common with aspartame its #9 on FDA's own list of 92 symptoms.

It's impossible for a study on aspartame to show safety. That's why front groups like ILSI hand out money.

Aspartame manufacturers are pro's at fixing studies. Here's how they do it: http://www.dorway.com/wurtman2.html

Scientists who do honest independent and unbiased studies are threatened by aspartame makers. The Trocho Study is an example. This showed that the formaldehyde converted from the free methyl alcohol accumulates in the cells and damages DNA. As discussed in the medical text, Aspartame Disease: An Ignored Epidemic, victims are pre-embalmed. As a physician you know when you damage DNA you destroy humanity.

Studies were done in South and Central America by Searle sacrificing people in poor villages who wouldn't be missed. I have the affidavit of the translator. These studies showed what we already know that aspartame destroys the brain and central nervous system, triggers seizures and brain tumors, and hardens the synovial fluids. Naturally the pregnant woman lost her baby. People died in the study and Searle never published it.

In Norway a study showed aspartame destroys the brain especially in the area of learning, just as Dr. Olney predicted.

The public demands the recall. Parlimentarian Williams demanded the recall in England. Robin Goodwin, whose wife had an aspartame brain tumor, and daughter suffered seizures for 18 years until they removed aspartame, demanded the recall in the Falkland Islands. He took matters in his own hands to save the people by writing every person in the Falkslands. For months aspartame products remain on the shelves unsold. Stephen Fox of New Mexico petitioned the Environmental Improvement Board and Board of Pharmacy to ban aspartame because it violates state and federal adulteration statutes. Ajinomoto must have spent millions to prevent hearings the Board had voted twice to have. The bottomless checkbooks bought lobbyists trained in influence. But it's not over. As New Mexico Senator Gerald Ortiz y Pino wrote, Aspartame is Just Buying Time. http://www.rense.com/general69/nmm2.htm

Others are lined up to get this poison out of their state. China just restricted aspartame production: http://www.freemarketnews.com/WorldNews.asp?nid=16695

Secretary of Defense, Don Rumsfeld was CEO of Searle when the FDA originally refused to approve aspartame. He said he would call in his markers and get it approved anyway. From the aspartame documentary Sweet Misery: A Poisoned World, http:///soundandfury.tv/pages/rumsfeld2.html A quarter of a century has gone by and millions have perished from the neurodegenerative diseases, drug interactions and cancers triggered by this chemical poison once listed with the pentagon in an inventory of prospective biochemical warfare submitted to Congress. http://www.wnho.net/the_ecologist_aspartame_report.htm

It's time to clean up this mess, Dr. Von Eschenbach and stop people from dying the world over. Vioxx murdered 60,000, more than those who died in the Vietnam War. My brother was a Green Beret, he survived a plane crash and Agent Orange but aspartame has destroyed his heart, and the addiction has almost taken his life. Diet drinks were piled high in the Persian Gulf becoming formaldehyde cocktails and interacting with unsafe vaccines. Desert Storm Illness, or Aspartame Disease, by friendly fire murdered more than the enemy. http://www.wnho.net/aspartameandgulfwar.htm

Now Big Pharma has found away to remove their liability. Obviously they have never been in the "life-saving business" only a business of greed where they consider death and disability acceptable costs of business.

If you really mean you want to stop the suffering from cancer than recall the carcinogen. If you ignore this letter as FDA has ignored the Citizens Petition for ban you will show your words meaning nothing.

I ask you, Dr. Von Eschenbach to not insult my intelligence with propaganda. I have copies of FDA's records showing aspartame is nothing more than a chemical poison. Sending out propaganda lying about aspartame safety comes under Title 18, Section 1001. It's a grotesque and appalling act by a federal agency sworn to protect the public with safe food and drugs.

Stephen Fox also wrote today requesting that you rescind the FDA's approval for aspartame which is metabolized as, among other things, methanol and formaldehyde, which is doing incontrovertible harm to millions of those who consume it. He says further: "Aspartame approval was forced through the US Food and Drug Administration in l981, after having been rejected from l966 to l981, in a regulatory coup by Donald Rumsfeld, when he was CEO of G.D. Searle. This mistake ha resulted in millions of Americans with neurodegenerative illnesses and cancer, birth defects, and other illnesses, and even more humans are afflicted in other nations.

"The USA has dropped to 29th in world longevity statistics and it's long over due that the FDA rescind the approval for aspartame, found in 6000 USA food products, and in more than 500 medications. China has curtailed its aspartame production, and the Netherlands is withdrawing from Holland Sweeteners. We ask that you rescind the approval for aspartame as a way of protecting millions of American's health, and not capitulate to the corporations who will object on the grounds of concern for their product liabilities. To protect the health of all nations, particularly the USA's, would be a commendable and welcome advance into the future, one which would bring the most excellent dividends of increased creativity and productivity among all of our citizens."

Dr. Von Eschenbach, when those responsible to solve the problem ARE the problem its a sad commentary FDA has betrayed the consumer public. It would be a refreshing change to have a commissioner interested in safe food and drugs. By recalling aspartame you send a message you want to stop the poisoning of the people. By not recalling it you show yourself as just an addition to the staff of Big Pharma, Washington's Branch Office. I ask you to think of the millions of lost and damaged children this deadly poison has caused, and the human suffering as aspartame destroys the brain, central nervous system, optic nerve and immune system. It ravages every organ in the body. If you meant your words you wish to stop the suffering and death from cancer, this is your avenue to realize your commitment.

The Molecular Holocaust Of Aspartame
By Bill Deagle, MD
8-1-2006

Aspartame entered the food supply of America and many nations followed on the deception of Donald Rumsfeld and the FDA new director, denying the scientific facts of its toxicity.

In the stomach it quickly converts to methanol and formaldehyde, known neurotoxins and cancer induction agents.

I spoke to Dr Olney many years ago and he told me that Aspartame would cause a 10% per decade rise in all brain cancers in all age groups and this level on increase in brain tumors, organic dementia and behavioral disorders parallels the spread of this most dangerous food adulterant.

Diabetes and insulin resistance syndromes have increased in cases where my patients have used this toxin in their daily meal or drink.

As an International Civil Aviation Examiner, I have seen pilots who have been advised in the USAF and commercial airlines not to drink aspartame for the dangers of seizures or blackouts with fatal loss of control of their aircraft.

How can a brain function with these addictive poisons flowing through their neurons?

Banning Aspartame from all foods and medicines immediately is the only rational route to regain some respect for our FDA and regulatory protection for the public.

Co-toxic with mercury in vaccines, MSG, Splenda, and environmental pollution with heavy metals, our children and elderly are least capable of coping.

Disabilities in learning and behavioral disorders, and dementia and diabetes are a bitter harvest for our corrupt government regulators and Big Pharma and Chema Transnational Corporations.

Lead the way to a clean safe food supply and stop DNA, brain and fertility damage to our future generations by banning this and other toxins from our foods and medicines.

Sincerely,
Dr. Bill Deagle MD

Americans support use of meat-origin labeling: poll
Wed Jul 11, 2007 10:43AM EDT

By Christopher Doering

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. consumers overwhelmingly support stricter food labeling laws, with 92 percent of Americans wanting to know which country produced the food they are buying, a consumer magazine said on Tuesday.

Consumer Reports said recent food scares, including worries about peanut butter and lettuce, have made Americans more interested in knowing not only how their food was produced but where it was made.

"I was definitely shocked at how high these numbers were," said the study's coauthor Dr. Urvashi Rangan, a senior scientist and policy analyst at Consumers Union, the nonprofit organization that publishes Consumer Reports magazine.

"It's much like a nutrition label or an ingredient label in that it needs to be part of the general information coming in about imported foods," she added.

The poll was conducted with 1,004 telephone interviews between June 7 and June 10.

Last month, USDA said it would reopen public comment to its so-called "country-of-origin" labeling measure until August 20.

Congress enacted the meat-labeling requirement as part of a 2002 law but has twice delayed the start date, now set for September 30, 2008.

CAMPAIGN ISSUE?

Meatpackers and grocers as well as some farm groups say the labeling law will create an expensive record-keeping headache to track each piece of meat from the slaughter plant to grocery shelf. Other farm groups side with consumer groups in saying shoppers deserve to know if meat is imported or U.S.-grown.

Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards released on Tuesday a package of safety proposals for imported foods, including making country-of-origin labeling mandatory.

"It's time to stop the delays and stop giving in to big agribusiness and food importers," said Edwards.

In recent months, the United States has uncovered safety problems with imports of Chinese seafood, toothpaste and melamine-contaminated wheat gluten that was added into U.S. feed for pets, pigs, chickens and fish.

"It is increased oversight and serious inspections (that) will move us in the right direction," said Democratic Sen. Charles Schumer of New York.

The Consumer Reports study found 86 percent of those surveyed expect the "natural" label to mean that processed foods do not contain artificial ingredients. Still, the group said many manufacturers call their products natural foods even though they contain artificial sugars and oils.

The results also showed that 91 percent of consumers said "organic" fish should be produced without environmental pollution and be low in contaminants such as mercury and PCBs. There currently are no government guidelines in place for organic seafood.

Consumers Union, the Center for Food Safety and Food and Water Watch plan to file a complaint and petition on Wednesday with the U.S. Agriculture Department and Federal Trade Commission to prevent manufacturers from labeling seafood as organic until a government definition is established.
